Why be a professional athlete in one sport when you can be in two?
Des'ree Barnes doesn't follow the rules; she makes them. Des'ree picked up her brother's bike at the age of three and taught herself how to ride in the backyard. By four, she was BMX Racing, and now at the age of sixteen, she's a 5 x BMX World Champion and an 8 x BMX National Champion.
Excelling in one sport would be enough for most, but not Des'ree. In 2017 she represented Australia for Olympic weightlifting at the Oceania Championships, placing second overall. She was back again in 2018, placing third overall in her category. She's currently ranked second in Australia for Olympic weightlifting in the 53kg category.
Des'ree is a fierce competitor, with BMX Racing and Weightlifting taking her around the world to compete, and she's always striving to Be More. Her goal is to compete at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in BMX and compete at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Olympic weightlifting. Nothing is holding this girl back! We're so excited for what her future holds and for her to be a member of our Kanguru Energy family.
