Gymnasts defy gravity, and our Be More ambassador Chris Remkes pushes himself and beats the odds every day.
Chris started life in a Filipino orphanage before being adopted by South Australian couple Mike and Dora Remkes. Since starting gymnastics at the tender age of five, Chris has doggedly trained to get where he is today.
A 147cm-tall pocket rocket, Chris started out training with the GYM-JETS club in South Australia before moving to the National Centre of Excellence in Canberra to realise his dreams. From here, it was onwards and upwards, taking out Gold at the Australian Championships in 2013, then making the jump to Senior International Level at the 2014 World Championships in Nanning, China.
Chris, however, was just getting warmed up. He's had enormous success and quickly become a crowd favourite. At the recent World Cup, Chris secured the Gold medal in Vault, coming off the back of Silver in 2016. The pinnacle of this success has to be Chris' win at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, taking out the Gold Medal in Vault and breaking a 24-year Commonwealth Games Vault drought for Australia. Now, Chris is coming in hot for a medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games – so watch this space!
Chris has the fire in his heart to succeed, and at Kanguru Energy, we're so proud to be helping him on his journey.
